Mission

Mission: Our mission is to provide an outstanding English-immersion education to students from France and abroad.

Values: Love of learning, tolerance, diversity, inclusion.

4 Cornerstones

Social

Social development is an integral part of early learning. Children behave the way they see others behave; they treat others the way they are treated by others. Our teachers model caring, respectful behaviour and encourage communication skills and friendships. Young students are taught to listen actively, to act mindfully, to display good manners and to respond appropriately to the needs of others. These skills encourage successful, confident interaction within the school, with family and friends as well as with the community and surrounding environment.

Academic

We adhere rigorously to the objectives established by the Ministry of Education, and aim to exceed these standards. Our method is to implement the curriculum in a way that enhances child development. Sustainable academic progress begins with genuine curiosity and a desire to do our best; students who love learning and feel happy at school and with their teachers will progress steadily and meet academic milestones. Using an interdisciplinary approach, teachers work to encourage a solid work ethic ensuring that students take pride in their work. Individual student strengths and challenges are recognised and a low student-teacher ratio ensures the provision of individual attention. All teachers receive regular professional training in the areas of inclusion, modified- and adapted lesson-planning as well as best-practices for catering to students with exceptional learning needs.

Global

Learning involves a community. Students learn at school, at home, and in the community around them. We recognise the importance of this interdependence and the vital role that is effective communication and exchange between parents, teachers and the world around us. At BSB, young students will learn that their impact on the world extends beyond the classroom. They will take ownership of activities like helping in the lunch-room, participating in community events, fund-raisers, activities promoting environmental awareness, etc. Students will learn to celebrate diversity; they will recognise the importance of treating people and the planet with respect and dignity.

Emotional

We believe that healthy emotional development is based on self-confidence and positive self-image. Without healthy emotional development, academic and social progress aren’t sustainable. Kids need to feel safe and welcome; they need to be interested in their school and curious about the activities that make up their days – with those things in place, the learning will come. Children need to be prepared for challenging situations. Solid emotional development leads to strong character development and prepares young learners for success.

Our difference

Our Difference

While many schools offer bilingual, international educational options, these usually come with certain conditions. Many of the schools are under contract with the French Ministry of Education. This means that the French national curriculum is taught, which, while excellent for many, is limited in its capacity to represent an international spirit. In many “bilingual” schools, English is not taught through consistent immersion. As such, exposure to natural spoken English remains limited and children finish school with poor levels of English proficiency.

At the Petite Ecole Bilingue – Stewart International School we believe that English instruction alone far from constitutes an “International” education. An international school must reflect and promote a global, multicultural spirit. We believe in the importance of input from the international community. We hire teachers with extensive experience; they have taught in renowned international schools all over the world and are familiar with educational practices and customs from a variety of countries and exam boards. Our teachers celebrate diversity and inclusion – both academic and cultural.

As for English: native speakers learn along-side non-natives.   Decades of linguistic and pedagogical studies have proven countless times that immersion is the most natural, efficient way to learn a language. Children for whom English is not the first language will be exposed to natural, fluent English right from the start, and children will be exposed to all curriculum content in English – not just certain topics or for short periods of time each day.   French is taught in the afternoons by native French teachers with recognised teaching qualifications.

We welcome questions – especially from parents.   We believe that our success is built upon regular communication and the effective exchange of ideas between all members of the school community – not just upon the interaction between students and teachers. When parents are happy with school, kids are happy to go to school – this is when learning happens.

The 4 Cornerstones of our educational philosophy rigorously meet and aim to exceed the criteria of the national curriculum. By remaining “hors contrat” we are able to ensure our comprehensive, international education is represented not only through language instruction, but that it is integrated into everything we do.

We hope to meet you soon! We’d like to show you how successful education can be when students come first.
